Year 2 Pip and Pap Phonics Workshop

Parents and pupils in Year 2 joined together for a special Pip and Pap Phonics workshop yesterday! They read Purple Phase Book 14 "The New Baby" together, recapping alternative pronunciations for graphemes we already know.

For example, they looked at:

/oa/ written 'ow', in words like mellow

/s/ written 'c', in words like city

/ee/ written 'y', in words like fancy

/i/ written 'y', in words like crystals

/oo/ written 'ou', in words like coupons

/j/ written 'g', in words like ginger

/e/ written 'ea', in words like feather

/ai/ written 'ey' in words like grey

After reading the story together and answering questions, they created their own cameras - as Gran uses hers to photograph the family together! Pupils used their cameras to capture photos of "the new babies" in Year 2 - their beautiful ducklings!

We then talked about how families come in all shapes and sizes, for example, Pip and Pap now have a half sister, Della!

All parents are welcome at our Pip and Pap Phonics workshops, which run every other week. Please ask he school office for more details.
