Year 2 Parent and Child Workshop

Year 2 parents and pupils enjoyed reading Purple Phase Book 11, "In the Lab" together in their Parent and Pupil Phonics workshop!

The book focused on recapping alternative pronunciations for graphemes we have already met, such as 'c' making the /s/ sound in words like "acids," 'y' making the /i/ sound in words like crystals, 'ch' making a /k/ in words like "chemicals" and the grapheme 'a' making a /o/ sound in words like "salts".

Then, they answered comprehension questions using a range of different reading skills, such as retrieving, inferring and predicting, before completing an art activity together! In the book, Thell makes crystals in her laboratory! Pupils and parents drew geometric shapes and used watercolours to create their very own crystals too. Aren't they splendid?
