CAFOD

A big thank you to Steve from CAFOD who delivered a wonderful assembly to the whole school and an informative workshop for Years 1 - 6. Steve shared the work that CAFOD are doing in Bangladesh to support communities, such as by installing solar panels in 'Eco Villages', teaching people farming skills to help their crops to thrive in a changing climate, and teaching trades like mechanics and tailoring so people aren’t solely reliant on farming in the unpredictable weather.

The children also learned about the global work that CAFOD carries out all around the world. CAFOD are supporting the Türkiye-Syria Earthquake appeal alongside its sister agency, Caritas Turkey. Steve shared information about the earthquake with our pupils and how CAFOD's support can help in the aftermath. Children asked how they could personally support further - Steve talked through the power of praying and shared CAFOD's prayer for Türkiye & Syria with the pupils, which you can see below.

We are raising money for CAFOD through our Big Lent Walk that starts on Wednesday. If you would like to donate to the CAFOD Big Walk, you can do so using your child's sponsorship form, or our electronic link at: https://cafod.enthuse.com/pf/olsjschoolcafod. Many thanks for your ongoing support.

CAFOD Prayer for those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

God of mercy,
We pray for the people of Türkiye and Syria
following the recent earthquakes.
We mourn the death and destruction.
and pray for those who have died and those who grieve.

Lord, bring them comfort, strength and renewed hope.

We hold in our hearts those who are injured,
and those who have lost loved ones, livelihoods, and homes.

Lord, bring them comfort, strength and renewed hope.

Sustain and guide all responding to this disaster.
Grant those affected courage and resilience,
as they rebuild their lives and communities.

Lord, bring them comfort, strength and renewed hope.

Inspire us to unite in solidarity,
acting swiftly and generously,
so that help may reach all who need it.

Lord, bring them comfort, strength and renewed hope.

Amen.
