Poetry By Heart

Key Stage 2 have been working very hard on rehearsing their poems for our upcoming "Poetry By Heart" celebration! Each child has a poem per 1914 to learn (pre World War I), as well as one written post 1914.

Our school Governor, Linda Guilding - who has such a passion for drama and the arts, has worked with Year 5 and Year 6 today, to coach and support them with the performance element of their poetry! She was very impressed with the children's passion and enthusiasm for their poems, as well as their prosody and expression when performing!

Don't forget, we will also be nominating children from each class to be put forward for the national "Poetry By Heart" competition, where the winners will perform at the Globe Theatre in London! Last year, Elizabeth was named "Best in County," as well as our Poetry Club receiving a 'Highly Commended' certificate for their group freestyle performance.

We will be performing our poems to parents on Tuesday 23 January (Year 3/4) and Thursday 25 January (Year 5/6) - we hope to see you there. Each class will be performing a group recital and children nominated as 'class finalists' will also share their pieces with the audience.

Many thanks for your continued support and for helping your children to learn their poems at home!
